Walmart Canada is pleased to announce it has awarded a total of $150,000 in bursaries through the 2022 Walmart Canada Associate Scholarship Program.

Tuition increases coupled with the rising cost of living can make paying for post-secondary education challenging for Canadian students and their families. Fortunately, 75 students will get some welcome relief with scholarships from Walmart Canada.

The Walmart Canada Associate Scholarship Program is one way the retailer is helping associates and their families save money, live better and get a great education. Since 1994, Walmart Canada has awarded more than 1,400 university and college scholarships, totalling more than $2.7 million for Canadian students across the country.

Since its inception, this annual initiative awards $2,000 to outstanding Walmart associates or their dependents who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement to put towards their first year of post-secondary education. Recipients were chosen based on their academic achievement, extracurricular activities, community involvement and financial need.

Adrienne MacGowan, a Walmart Canada Omni Fulfillment Associate in Mount Pearl, N.L., who plans to specialize in Process Engineering at Memorial University.

“The scholarship program is fantastic! It gives students with ordinary lives an opportunity to achieve something extraordinary. I want to start my own organization that strives to research ways to avoid crop loss due to barren land and the effects of climate change.”

Jenna Emanuel, a Walmart Canada Associate in Bedford, N.S., who will be attending Dalhousie University to realize her dreams of becoming a nurse.

“The Walmart Associate Scholarship Program is just another example of how Walmart supports their associates to pursue their dreams.”

Kainaat Safdar, a Walmart Canada Claims Associate in Brantford, Ont., pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce at Carleton University.

“This scholarship will relieve some of the financial burden associated with pursuing a post-secondary education. I feel very grateful for the Walmart scholarship program as it provides students with the opportunity to finance their studies.”

Daniel Mogan, a Walmart Canada Meat Department Associate from Kemptville, Ont. is enrolled in the Chemical Engineering program at Ottawa University.

“I was ecstatic and a little shocked when I got the email that I had received the Walmart scholarship and I am extremely grateful. I worked hard in the last year and a half and saved as much as I could. However, university is very expensive. The scholarship will help me focus on my studies to succeed instead of worrying about money.”

Jenna Bennett, a Walmart Canada Front End Associate in Marystown, N.L., is starting her post-secondary education at College of the North Atlantic and then applying to Police Studies in the Criminology Department at Memorial University with the goal of becoming a forensic scientist.

“Walmart's Scholarship program is a chance for students to show their worth and have the opportunity to gain some extra help toward their education. Thank you so much for giving me this scholarship, it means so much to me and my family.”

Aiden Hawgood, a Walmart Canada Produce Associate in Chatham, Ont., is attending Sheridan College for Art Fundamentals, to pursue artistry and fashion.

“I was at work when I first saw the email and I first told my Department Manager who was so happy for me! It’s so good to know I have a huge family of associates... all supporting each other... I’m so proud to be a part of the Walmart team, one that truly cares about its associates!”

Haley Lundy, a Walmart Canada Self-Checkout Attendant in Alliston, Ont., will be attending the University of Guelph pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce in Food and Agriculture Business and hopes to one day either manage or own and operate a farm raising livestock, cash crops or a combination of the two.

"Being chosen as a Walmart scholarship recipient is such an honour and I take great pride in it. It shows me that all of my hard work both in school as well as in the workplace finally paid off. This scholarship will help me fund my post-secondary education that can often be overwhelming and mentally as well as financially stressful. It comes as a huge weight off my shoulders.”

Carissa Levesque, a Walmart Canada Cap 2 Associate from Grand Falls, N.B., is pursuing a Bachelor of Science at the University of New Brunswick to one day become an optometrist.

“Being a Walmart Scholarship recipient means a lot because it’s going to help me financially. It will help with tuition but most of all give me good inspiration to study hard.”

Bryana Mensah, a Walmart Canada Meat Department Associate in Hawkesbury, Ont., is pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce to one day work in public relations or marketing management.

“I did not want to get my hopes up for winning, so when I learned that I won, it made the news all the more exciting. This scholarship means so much to me and my future goals. The expenses that come with achieving a post-secondary education add up very quickly, and this scholarship will help relieve financial stress. Not only does it show that Walmart appreciates the hard work of its associates, but they also recognize students' lives outside of work.”

Robert Bower, a Walmart Canada, Dairy/Frozen Department Associate from Greenwood, N.S., is pursuing Business Administration at Nova Scotia Community College to set himself up for his dream career, to be a Walmart Store Manager.

“This scholarship shows that Walmart supports their associates and works with them to help them achieve their educational and career goals.”

Walmart Canada also has a variety of education programs available to associates including AdvancED – an education assistance program providing learning opportunities and tuition subsidies for Walmart associates and their eligible family members, depending on the associate's position. The retailer is proud to support continued learning, available through Walmart's education resources.

Congratulations to our 2022 Walmart Canada Associate Scholarship recipients!
