With inflation levels on the rise, we know some Canadian families are struggling to put food on the table. Walmart Canada is committed to doing our part – particularly those who work behind the scenes to keep our shelves stocked and Canadians fed.

And today, on Grocery Heroes Day, I want to celebrate and recognize the essential role of our frontline associates who work in our stores and across our supply chain.

When the rest of the world was locked down, our very own Walmart Canada heroes – associates working in stores and distribution and fulfilment centres and operating our fleet – came to work every day to ensure customers had access to fresh and affordable food and essential products.

Though life has begun to normalize with the lifting of pandemic restrictions, new challenges continue to emerge. Inflation, supply chain issues and geopolitical crises make access to healthy and affordable food critical.

I’m proud of the resilience our associates have continued to show during these times of uncertainty as they operate our distribution and fulfilment centres, load trucks, stock shelves, greet customers and assist with online pickup orders and deliveries. They are focused on the things we can control such as our commitment to everyday low prices – something we’re honouring with our “Locked In Low Prices” campaign, which offers customers significant savings on Walmart Brand products.

Canadians are relying on us now more than ever before and we won’t let them down.

Our fleet drivers travel approximately 45 million kilometres each year to bring goods to/from our distribution and fulfilment centres. Our supply chain associates diligently work to get products into the hands of our customers. Our store associates work around the clock to keep more than 400 Walmart stores across the country stocked and open.

I’m awed by their efforts and today on Grocery Heroes Day I want to say a huge thank you to our Walmart associates for putting your communities first and helping 1.5 million Canadians save money and live better each day.

Being there for our community is our number one priority. Realizing that during peaks of the pandemic, we may have been the only face-to-face interaction a customer may have had all day, reaffirmed the amazing impact a simple hello or a smile can have. This is what makes our roles more important than ever. We always have a chance to be that small moment that makes a world of difference.

As a fresh team we take immense pride in our work each and every day especially during the pandemic when our associates were our heroes. They show up every day to serve our customers and provide a safe shopping experience while ensuring families are able to have fresh food. Thank you to all of our associates who continue to be our heroes!
