The competition for talent is fierce.

All over the country companies are looking for the best-of-the-best.

Walmart founder Sam Walton once said, “If you want the people in the stores to take care of the customers, you have to make sure you're taking care of the people in the stores."

At Walmart Canada, Mr. Sam’s words still ring true today. There has never been a better time to work at Walmart Canada.

As one of Canada’s largest employers with more than 400 stores from coast-to-coast-to-coast, we take our responsibility to our store associates very seriously.

They are the faces in hundreds of communities across Canada.

They serve millions of customers who choose to shop at Walmart every single day.

Our customers are changing, and our business is changing, too. Today, we are excited to announce new changes for Walmart Canada hourly store associates, including:

  • Promoting thousands of part-time associates to new full-time roles, which expands our mix of part-time and full-time from 35% full-time to 50% full-time by end of year.
  • A guarantee of 37.5 hours per week, up from 28 hours, impacting more than 35,000 associates.

We’re proud of these enhancements because our associates have been asking for them. They wanted more hours, more predictability, more benefits and more opportunity. These changes will help improve their work-life balance and well-being, which is important to us as an employer and will help future talent choose Walmart as a place to work.

This is that place where you can start working part-time and work your way up through the company. At Walmart, the sky’s the limit!

With these changes come better benefits, too, including associate and family assistance, maternity and parental benefits, retirement and savings, health and dental benefits, virtual healthcare, tuition support, and shopping discount.

The changes to hourly store roles follow recent changes to store management roles to provide more empowerment, ownership and autonomy for our store leaders. These include new management schedules, split shifts offering more flexibility for personal appointments and time with family and laptops for store managers and co-managers so they can work from anywhere, including planning and taking zoom meetings from home.

In addition, in the coming months we will be piloting a condensed workweek for our managers allowing them additional time off and job sharing – offering our managers even more flexibility and balance.

We’re keenly focused on helping all our associates grow, develop and advance. We want to build a workforce with the skills needed now and in the future. We believe it will also help us attract and retain top talent – a must in today’s very competitive retail environment.

We are also committed to being a great place to work and these changes will help us recruit, retain and develop our talent. We want to be that place that offers more than a job; we want to offer careers.

Apply for a job at Walmart Canada and see for yourself how our associates can truly change the world.
