Walmart Canada is pleased to announce 69 recipients of the 2021 Walmart Canada Associate Scholarship Program.

This annual initiative awards $2,000 to outstanding Walmart associates or their dependents who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement to put towards their first year of post-secondary education. From hundreds of applications received, recipients were chosen based on their academic achievement, extracurricular activities, community involvement and financial need.

The Walmart Canada Associate Scholarship is available to high school students working for Walmart, or dependents of Walmart associates, who intend to continue their education at an accredited Canadian college or university immediately following graduation.

Meet some of the winners:

“Winning the Walmart Associate Scholarship means my effort and passion to help people, especially our customers during the pandemic as a frontline worker fulfilling grocery orders, are so much more meaningful than just working a part-time job,” said Fardin Faruk, who worked at the Pickering, Ont., Walmart store and plans to study computer science at the University of Toronto. “Winning this scholarship tells me Walmart Canada appreciates associates who dedicate themselves serving customers and striving for excellence.”

“This scholarship means a lot to me, which cannot be expressed in words,” said Tabiya Mahima, who worked at the Walmart Stonegate Supercentre in Saskatoon and intends to study biomedical sciences at the University of Saskatchewan. “This scholarship has helped me to a great extent and has taken a huge burden off me. I am truly grateful for this wonderful opportunity from Walmart.”

“As an associate at Walmart, I have learned to speak up, be true and work hard and the experience has made me more humble and thankful for the good things that happen in my life, as it has become evident that hard work pays off,” said Cady Wong, who worked as a Walmart associate in Brossard, Que., and will be attending McGill University for psychology. “It means that I will have one less worry going into my first year in university. I will be able to focus on my studies and club responsibilities with more ease. Thank you, Walmart!”

Since 1994, Walmart Canada has awarded over 1,300 university and college scholarships, totalling more than $2.7 million for Canadian students from coast to coast. In 2020, Walmart Canada awarded 73 scholarships to a diverse group of high school students across the country.

Walmart Canada has a variety of education programs available to associates including AdvancED – an education assistance program providing learning opportunities and tuition subsidies for Walmart associates and their eligible family members, depending on the associate's position. Walmart Canada also supports associates' continued learning, available through Walmart's education resources.
