Kitchener, ON, July 29, 2021 – Walmart Canada’s newly remodelled 125,000 sq. ft. Kitchener Walmart, located at 2960 Kingsway Dr., grand opened today to the community as a Supercentre with a broad assortment of fresh, affordable groceries, general merchandise and convenient services at Walmart’s everyday low prices. There are five Walmart Supercentres in Kitchener-Waterloo.
Expanded assortment, new look and feel
A former Woolco store and one of the 122 founding Walmart Canada stores from 1994, the Kitchener Supercentre renovation represents a $16 million reinvestment in the store, its customers and the community. The investment is part of the company’s $3.5 billion investment over the next five years aimed to generate significant growth and to make the online and in-store shopping experience simpler, faster and more convenient for Walmart’s customers. That includes renovating more than 150 stores over the next three years – more than one-third of Walmart Canada’s store network.
The new Supercentre features fresh groceries and general merchandise all under one roof. Customers can fill their cart with fresh groceries, including fruits, vegetables and organic produce, Canadian beef, chicken and pork, as well as dairy, baked goods, frozen foods and pantry items along with health and beauty aids, household items, fashion and much more. Walmart Canada is proud to work with more than 2,200 Canadian suppliers to source many of these products as we help move Canada’s economy forward by creating jobs and strengthening communities.
The renovated store also boasts a contemporary look and feel, with a new colour palette, front façade, in-store signage and lighting.
“We are thrilled about this grand opening in Kitchener as we aim to make the shopping experience simpler, faster, convenient and more pleasant for our customers,” said Store Manager Julie Woods. “We’re excited to unveil the results of a much-anticipated, year-long renovation. Our customers will benefit from having an expanded assortment of products and the ability to choose to shop in-store or online with in-store pickup or home delivery. We also know the new Supercentre will make grocery shopping very convenient for nearby residents and they will enjoy seeing familiar associates from the now closed Stanley Park Walmart store.”
Job opportunities
With the conversion adding more than 40 new positions, the remodelled store will employ approximately 200 associates. “Walmart is a great place to build a career,” added Woods, who has worked at Walmart for more than a decade. Full-service pharmacy
The Kitchener Walmart pharmacy team is eager to offer new and longtime customers expert advice, compassionate care on health-care issues and assistance with products and prescriptions.
