Autoimmune care goes national: Walmart Canada expands pharmacist‑led support across the country

March 26, 2026

Walmart Canada is expanding its Autoimmune Care Program nationwide, making it easier for Canadians living with autoimmune conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis among others to access additional pharmacist-led support at their local Walmart Pharmacy.

First launched in 70 pharmacies in late 2025, the program now extends to more than 330 Walmart Pharmacy locations across Canada (excluding Accès Pharma pharmacies in Quebec) in bringing more personalized, pharmacist-led support closer to where customers already live and shop, including in rural and underserved communities.

“At Walmart Canada, our focus is on making healthcare simpler, more accessible and easier to navigate, especially for patients managing chronic conditions,” said Natalie Houlder, Vice President, Health and Wellness, Walmart Canada. “Autoimmune conditions affect a significant number of Canadians and often require lifelong management, complex treatment plans and ongoing support. By expanding autoimmune care nationally, we’re helping more Canadians access additional pharmacy-based support and services closer to home, from pharmacists they already know and trust.”

Through the program, Walmart pharmacists receive additional, program-specific training to support patients in managing complex medications, monitoring for side effects and drug interactions, and providing injection support where permitted under provincial regulations. They also work collaboratively with prescribers and patient support programs (PSPs) to help ensure more coordinated, continuous care.

By offering this level of support through local pharmacies, the program helps reduce common barriers to care, including travel time, long wait times, mobility issues and disconnected services. With most Canadians living within a short distance of a Walmart Pharmacy, this expansion helps bring pharmacy-based autoimmune medication support into more communities across the country.

“For many patients, pharmacists are often among the most accessible healthcare providers,” said Bart Denie, Pharmacist, Pincher Creek Walmart. “This program gives us the tools and training to better support patients alongside their existing care teams. We can answer questions, support patients through their treatment and be there throughout their health journey.”

The program is part of Walmart Canada’s broader investment in pharmacist training, expanded clinical services and digital tools that help make care easier to manage day to day. This includes the Walmart Pharmacy app which offers convenient features such as prescription management, authorized caregiver access and same-day medication delivery, where available.
