At Walmart Canada, our Walmart Brands are designed with our customer in mind. Our mission is simple: to design and deliver high-quality products that fit real lives. Whether that means discovering great fashions, creating durable everyday essentials, or adding thoughtful details to our products, our customers are at the centre of our decisions.
This holiday season, one story touched me deeply – a small design choice that made a big impact for families across Canada.
Our Tinsel Town collection – a whimsical, joy-filled assortment of ornaments, bath accessories, tabletop décor, and cozy bedding – features a charming character designed in-house by our talented Product Designer, Alicia Jocson.
At first glance, it’s fun and festive. But a closer look reveals something special: the character wears glasses.
That small choice carries big meaning.
“As someone who wears glasses, I wanted kids like me – and like my manager Andrea’s son – to feel seen. So we decided to give the character glasses, too,” said Alicia Jocson, Product Designer, Walmart Canada. “That subtle detail can mean the world to a child who doesn’t often see themselves reflected on the shelf. That’s the kind of care and focus we put into designing our Walmart Brands items.”
To me, great design starts with a simple question: “How will this make someone’s life better?” When we lead with thoughtfulness and belonging, every item is designed with purpose, empathy and a lot of joy. We know how powerful and special it is to feel represented – whether it’s finding a taste of home in our global foods offering, a home accent that matches your vibe, or an ornament that wears glasses, just like you.
I’m grateful to Alicia, Andrea, and our entire Walmart Brands Product Development team. Their creativity and care remind me that our work is about more than products – it’s about helping everyone feel at home in our stores.
