Last year Walmart Canada sold the equivalent weight of 32,000 Canadian moose in chips – that’s about 16 million kilograms! This is thanks to the hard work of Edward Hilling, Walmart Canada’s senior merchant responsible for salty snacks.
“The most exciting part of my job is seeing new brands that you’ve sourced and nurtured take off in Canada,” explains Edward Hilling, senior merchant, salty snacks at Walmart Canada.
With more than 1,000 delicious offerings in his portfolio, Edward’s an expert on working with our suppliers to bring Canada’s favourite – and soon-to-be-favourite - salty snacks to our shelves.
Edward started his 15-year career in retail working at Asda in the UK, a then-subsidiary of Walmart. From pushing carts to running Supercentres, Edward has experience that spans numerous roles in Operations across the UK and Canada. Now his focus is on ensuring that only the best products reach our shelves at prices our customers love.
“I feel incredibly lucky to manage products like nuts, popcorn, chips and jerky fall within my portfolio. I keep track of industry trends, customer feedback, and changes in the environment to get the products customers want onto shelves,” shares Edward. “One of my favourite aspects of the job is having the opportunity to help build smaller Canadian brands and bring new, innovative products into stores with suppliers that align with Walmart’s values.”
In recent years, Edward’s brought innovation and newness like Imperial Popcorn, a 20-year-old proud family-owned business based out of Quebec that’s now sold across all 403 of Walmart Canada’s stores.
