I came to Canada to find equal opportunity and growth and that’s exactly what I found at Walmart Canada. Little did I know, it was also my gateway to permanent residency.
I arrived in Canada in 2018 from India as an international student. A few months later, I got my first job in Canada with Walmart in Calgary after friends suggested I apply.
I started as a part-time Customer Experience Associate and over the next few years I progressed my way through several roles at Walmart, including Online Grocery Associate, Overnight Support Manager, Overnight Assistant Manager, and Department Manager for Deli, Bakery, and Produce.
What I really loved, and still love, about Walmart is the focus on the customer. I enjoy helping customers and ensuring they leave with a smile. To me, nothing beats the joy of helping someone find exactly what they need.
When I saw a posting on the job board for Assistant Manager, Consumables in Yellowknife, I decided to apply. It turns out, even the cold of Yellowknife couldn't chill my enthusiasm for Walmart!
Walmart Canada also played a special role in my personal life, as I was able to apply for my permanent residency because I was an essential worker during the pandemic. In 2023, I officially got my permanent residency. I now get to stay and plant roots in Canada because of Walmart.
I always share my story for anyone considering a career with Walmart. I started as an associate and have worked my way up to an Assistant Store Manager within five years: to me this shows that if you are dedicated and hardworking, you can achieve great things at Walmart.
I look forward to growing my career at Walmart. It’s a place where your capabilities are recognized, and equal opportunities are available for everyone.
