From newcomer to citizen: How Walmart Canada was a catalyst to endless possibilities

In 2018, I embarked on a life-changing journey as an international student at Conestoga College and immigrant to Canada. The initial steps were daunting but filled with hope and determination. Landing my first job with Walmart Canada as a store standards associate was both a challenge and a triumph. I faced obstacles, adapting to a new culture and work environment, but with perseverance, I flourished.

Walmart Canada played an integral role in helping me adapt to the new culture and environment I was in by offering training programs focused not only on building skills for my job but also on cultural integration and understanding. Walmart’s diverse workforce also allowed for opportunities to interact with people from various backgrounds, further enriching my experience and helping me adapt more effectively.

As I grew within the company, opportunities unfolded. Each role presented its own set of challenges, such as finding solutions for customers, operating efficiently, adapting to changes in processes and environment and more, but I embraced them eagerly, learning and evolving with every step.

My path as a newcomer to Canada was not without its setbacks, especially given the unforeseen impact of Covid-19. Yet, throughout these uncertainties, Walmart Canada stood by me, offering unwavering support and avenues for growth.

My dedication and hard work were recognized, propelling me to new heights within the organization. Thanks to the support of my leaders within the organization, I was able to move up in my career at Walmart Canada and become an assistant manager of store 3217 in Ancaster, Ontario, which was a significant milestone for me and a testament to my resilience and commitment. With each promotion, I became more ingrained in the fabric of Walmart Canada, contributing to its success while forging my own path.
