Store of the Community: Walmart's Canada's cottage stores

Aug. 5, 2023

Walmart supplies for a day at the beach. Walmart fournit pour une journée à la plage.

For many Canadians, summer is a time to slow down. But not so for Vincent Caruana and his associates at store 3123 in Barrie, Ontario. They’re working hard, helping customers prepare for a trip to the cottage, cabin, trailer park or a day at the lake.

For our nearly 80 cottage stores, from BC to Newfoundland, summer is like their Christmas – a peak time of year for sales.

“Our store continues to grow year-over-year and we couldn't do it without our summer cottage customers,” said Caruana. “Being a cottage store also means more summer fun!”

“We typically order more summer items and hold onto them longer for customers driving up the highway and taking a break halfway on their destination to stock up on all their cottage needs like camping items, food items, and any other needs they have.”

Customers can count on Walmart to be the destination for everything they need to help make summer days, especially long weekends by the lake, memorable ones.

Being a store of the community also means we tailor our product assortment and services to the needs and wants of the communities we serve from coast-to-coast.

Walmart Canada’s cottage stores start getting ready for cottage customers in early spring. Our merchant and replenishment teams ensure that stores are stocked with hundreds of items in key summer categories, including food for the barbecue, camping chairs, unique floaties, swimwear and in some stores, even kayaks and paddleboards at Walmart’s everyday low prices.

“Summer is a very exciting and important time of year for our associates and customers,” said Carbonear, Newfoundland Store Manager Derek Burton.

“We always look forward to reconnecting with our summer regulars as well as meeting new customers.”
