· Grocery Pickup added at 22 new locations in Regina, Halifax, Moncton, Victoria and Quebec City
· Mobile Check-in feature on Walmart app launched for the first time at these 22 new grocery pickup locations
· Pickup Towers for general merchandise orders to be introduced in 2019

MISSISSAUGA, ON October 23, 2018 – Walmart Canada reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to innovation and helping Canadians live better with the launch of Mobile Check-in, to coincide with a new wave of Grocery Pickup locations launching in Regina, Halifax, Moncton, Victoria and Quebec City today. Available on the Walmart app, the Mobile Check-in feature invites customers to check in 30 minutes prior to their scheduled grocery pickup time with a single tap. When the customer is close to the store, Walmart associates are alerted and the customer’s order is ready when they arrive. The feature is available today for the 22 stores where Grocery Pickup is being launched. The company plans to expand the mobile check-in feature to all Walmart Canada Grocery Pickup store locations sometime next year.

In addition to the new Mobile Check-in offering, the retailer also announced plans to introduce Pickup Towers to the Canadian market in early 2019 with two test locations in Oakville, Ontario and Mississauga, Ontario as it works to further integrate its e-commerce offering and bricks-and-mortar retail. Walmart Pickup Towers are high-tech, 16-foot-tall units, capable of dispensing a customer’s online, general merchandise order in less than a minute. The Pickup Towers are an easy and efficient way for customers to receive their online pickup orders and are another way Walmart provides convenient access at the store, for online customers.

“Walmart is always looking for innovative approaches to help our customers save time and money and we’re constantly trying new things,” said Lee Tappenden, president and CEO of Walmart Canada. “We’re thrilled to offer the Mobile Check-in technology to customers, potentially shaving valuable minutes off their online grocery pickup experience. Early next year we’ll also trial Pickup Towers – another way we are using our stores to offer convenience and time saving options to our customers.”

Walmart is committed to improving, expanding and growing its services to ensure Canadians can shop when, how, and where they want. This combination of high-tech, time-saving technology will help busy families looking for pickup solutions for products at Walmart’s everyday low prices.

The retailer continues to find ways to add convenience for customers without compromising on their everyday low prices and the quality customers expect from Walmart by expanding shipping and delivery options, free online grocery pickup at stores, and through the company’s recent $175 million investment in store renovations to create a seamless online to bricks-and-mortar store experience.
