Today we reflect and honour survivors, their families and communities affected by the legacy of residential schools for Orange Shirt Day and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Through orange shirts sold at Walmart from Indigenous Proud, 100% of the profits will be donated to the Orange Shirt Society and Indian Residential School Survivors Society.
This year's orange shirts feature artwork by Natasha Root, who is from the Listuguj Mi’gmaq First Nation in Quebec. Here’s what Natasha shared about her design:
“In almost every tribe, a wolf is a sacred animal. They are the empowerment of hunting, protection, loyalty, strength and success. A wolf represents the humility that allows us to guide our children. This design serves as a timeless reminder that, regardless of the era, our children will always matter.”
