“There was a time where I didn't think I'd see my kids graduate,” said Marc Labelle, Operations Associate at 6097 Cornwall HVDC who was diagnosed with cancer at 29 years old.
Twelve years later and cancer-free, Marc and his wife Pam are watching their twin girls Stephanie and Josee begin university, with the help of scholarships from Walmart Canada.
Walmart Canada has always been a strong advocate for education, and this year, we're thrilled to announce that we've awarded $144,000 in scholarships to eligible high school graduating students as part of our annual Walmart Canada Associate Scholarship program. This initiative is a testament to our commitment to supporting the future success of young Canadians.
While Walmart Canada has been supporting students through scholarships since 2000, we’re delighted two sets of siblings are some of this year’s lucky recipients.
"They've excelled at school. I couldn't ask for better girls. They’re my everything. I couldn’t be prouder,” shared Pam.
“Clearly someone noticed the hard work that they put in and I’m so happy to work for a fantastic company,” added Marc.
Another set of siblings, Mike, an associate at the Lloydminster Walmart and sister Mikaela Tacloy, were also awarded Walmart Canada Associate Scholarships.
“When I received the news that both my children were receiving Walmart scholarships, I was so happy,” said overjoyed mom Tessie Beauchamps, Department Manager, Lloydminster Walmart. “It’s a blessing financially and it will help my children pursue the careers they want.”
The scholarships will help Mike chase his dream to become a clinical dietician and Mikaela’s aspirations to become an anesthesiologist.
“Walmart Canada’s Associate Scholarship program is more than just financial support,” said Erin Mackey, Manager Community Giving, Walmart Canada. “It's a celebration of academic and community achievements, and a way to support students in their educational pursuits. We’re incredibly proud of this year’s recipients. Their hard work, dedication and perseverance have paid off, and receiving our scholarship is just the beginning of their bright futures ahead.”
The Walmart Canada Associate Scholarship Program is open to associates and dependents of associates and is one of many ways we support education and help Walmart associates and their families save money and live better. This year, we awarded 72 scholarships, each valued at $2,000, to high school graduates. Since 2000, Walmart Canada has awarded close to 1,500 scholarships totaling more than $2.7 million to associates or their dependents through this program.
Congratulations to our 2024 Walmart Canada Scholarship recipients! We’re excited to see where your journey takes you.
