When I joined Walmart Canada 29 years ago, it was a means to an end. As a single mom, I needed to support my child while also attending school full time. But, as I spent more time with the company, I started to see things differently – I saw a future. I started as an order filler, and today, I’m the Assistant General Manager at our Mississauga HVDC 7088.
I stayed with Walmart because I found I could positively impact others and motivate them to reach their full potential. Sometimes, people don’t realize what they’re capable of until someone believes in them and shows them the opportunities that exist. This company genuinely believes in growing talent and opening doors for our associates, and I’m living proof of that.
I was fortunate to work under amazing leaders like Dwight Paul, General Manager at our RDC 7102. Dwight supported me and many others in our professional growth journeys, without his leadership, I don't know if I’d be in this position today, able to make an impact on my own associates. Now, it’s my personal mission to help others grow, and it’s the most rewarding part of my job.
Throughout my 29 years here, I’ve received support, encouragement, and tools needed to grow. I truly believe in the power of mentorship and the personal growth that comes from helping others, because to teach is to learn twice.
My advice to anyone is: if you identify a career goal and are willing to put up your hand and put in the effort, the opportunities at Walmart are endless — there is no glass ceiling.
