Sam Wankowski is currently Chief Operations Officer of Walmart Canada. He is responsible for Walmart’s growing network of more than 400 Canadian discount and Supercentre operations and integrating the customer experience.
Sam has been with Walmart for 15 years and started his career through the Asda Graduate Program in the UK. After completing the program, Sam held several progressive roles spanning diverse areas of the business including Merchandising, Pricing, and Marketing before moving to join the Canadian business in 2008. Sam also took on an expatriate assignment with Walmart International in 2011 where he led Strategy for the EMEA region.
Upon his return to Walmart Canada, Sam assumed leadership of the General Merchandise team before moving into Operations in 2016 to lead the Western division. In this capacity, he executed a transformational strategy that fundamentally enabled the region to become one of the fastest growing food businesses in Canada. In 2019, Sam assumed the role of Senior Vice President of Central Operations where he was responsible for Workforce Management, Analytics, Innovation, OMNI Execution, Asset Protection, Communications, Field Execution and Sales Enablement.
Sam holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business and Quality Management from the Nottingham Business School. He currently sits on the board of advisors to LIMA Canada, an organization focused on growing the licensing industry in Canada.
