Our customers want the very best experience when they choose to shop with us.

This past year, as more and more customers stayed home, we accelerated expenditures in all aspects of the business.

Walmart Canada invested significantly to modernize and introduce new technologies to serve our customers better.

The cornerstone of our plan was a milestone $3.5 billion investment over the next five years aimed to generate significant growth and to make the online and in-store shopping experience simpler, faster and more convenient for our customers.

Walmart Canada also made sizeable investments in “stores of the future” designed to make the shopping experience as easy as possible. We accelerated and prioritized our online business to offer customers more pickup and delivery capacity.

At the same time, with more products being shipped than ever before, we broke ground on new state-of-the art distribution centres in both Ontario and British Columbia. And we expanded our partnerships with third-party companies such as Instacart and Cornershop to get products to customers faster.

All of these efforts are growing our business and providing jobs in construction and in-store to boost the local economy.

Hear how Walmart Canada provided Canadians with the products they needed during the pandemic, while investing and innovating for the future.

Innovating and Investing to Better Serve Customers
Innovating and Investing to Better Serve Customers
We don’t just make a promise, we back it up with action.

We’re committed to serving customers better, which is why we put $3.5 Billion into making Walmart Canada the most customer-friendly retailer in Canada. That includes:
•	$110 Million in accelerations renovations to stores in this past year.
•	$1.1 Billion to build two new distribution centres and renovate an existing distribution centre.

Innovation
Innovation is the key to our success. We’re constantly finding ways to create an effortless experience for customers.
Book-a-store Visit feature in the Walmart App. Customers can now book store visits in advance.
PayPal. PayPal became a new payment option on Walmart.ca to better meet the needs of online shoppers.
Store Capacity App. To manage the in-store capacity, our associates at the door use an app to count customers. The app is specifically configured for each store – based on square footage – to meet reduced capacity requirements.
Shelf Cameras. Help us track inventory and ensure your favourite products are always on the shelves.
Tap Payment. Implemented in stores across the country.
Mobile Checkout and Payment. To get you in and out of our stores quickly and safely.

Stores of the Future
OMNI is mostly a fancy way of saying you shop with Walmart however you like – be it in person, online, or a combination of the two. It also means that you don’t always have to go to the store – the store comes to you. That’s why we’ve invested heavily in grocery pick-up and delivery.

Supply Chain
It takes more than stores to meet customers’ needs – you also need a strong supply chain to get products from our suppliers and onto our shelves. That’s why we’re building new, state-of-the-art distribution centres in Vaughan, ON and Surrey, BC and upgrading our facilities in Cornwall.
New 30,000 square foot distribution centre in Surrey, British Columbia. Slated to open in 2022.
