Canadian Red Cross
Disaster happens when we least expect. From a flood to a house fire, being prepared and having the support needed during crisis is crucial. Since 2003, Walmart Canada has proudly supported Red Cross operations in communities across Canada, making them stronger and more resilient in their response to disaster. Since the partnership began, we have donated and raised more than $40 million in disaster relief funding to support their efforts.
These funds include flood relief operations in Quebec, Manitoba and Saskatchewan as well as close to 3,000 responses to provide relief to families affected by house fires and pre-emptive evacuations. The relationship between Walmart Canada and the Canadian Red Cross is one of the largest partnerships within the worldwide Red Cross Movement and all its national Societies.
Every year, Walmart Canada customers are invited to contribute to the invaluable humanitarian work the Red Cross accomplishes in Canada. Each store matches customer contributions to a maximum of $2,000. Funds raised during the annual campaign are set aside to help families in the community where funds are raised. Donations support the distribution of essential emergency supplies, hot meals, new clothing and a safe place to stay for those affected, as well as training and equipment for local volunteer teams.
Walmart Canada's annual campaign for disaster relief and preparedness raised a total of $3.27 million for the Canadian Red Cross this year, including an $818,000 contribution from Walmart which makes us the largest corporate donor to the Canadian Red Cross.
