What is Walmart doing to promote a diverse and inclusive workplace?
Culture, diversity, and inclusion (CDI) are a core part of Walmart’s DNA. It’s how we ensure Walmart’s opportunities are a reality for all our associates, and it’s how we foster inclusion. We are driven every day to be that place where different belongs and where everyone is included, where your talents are celebrated, your ideas are heard, and where everyone can thrive. In an inclusive workplace, everyone wins.
- We hold ourselves accountable for progress on diversity and inclusion initiatives through our Diversity and Inclusion Leadership Council (DILC).
- We provide economic opportunity for diverse suppliers. In fact, in 2019 Walmart Canada held the first ever Canadian WEConnect Supplier Diversity Forum, connecting 100 female entrepreneurs with Walmart Canada merchants; resulting in receiving the WEConnect International 2019 Canadian Supplier Diversity Champion Award.
- Walmart Canada brings its associates together to celebrate numerous Inclusion Events throughout the year including our Cultural Awareness Day where associates are encouraged to celebrate cultures around the world with food, dress, and entertainment across our stores, distribution centres, and head office. Another important inclusion event for our associates is taking part in the Pride Parade Program. More than 900 of our associates march in the Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal Pride Parades.
- In 2010, Walmart Canada launched the Women in Retail, a leadership development program aimed at helping women advance in their careers by providing a network of support and mentorship. Due to the program's success, the Women in Retail program has been expanded to global Walmart markets including Africa, Argentina, Chile, China, India, Japan, Mexico, and the UK.
