Our Culture

At Walmart, we are proud of our unique corporate culture. This culture, some of which grew naturally from small-town beginnings, sets us apart from the competition. It has helped us become one of the world's most admired companies.

Our three basic beliefs

Sam Walton founded the company on three simple yet very important beliefs. To this day, these fundamental beliefs are the basis of all policies and decisions by which we operate.

Respect for the Individual
We have a culture built on respect for all individuals regardless of age, gender, ethnicity or religious beliefs. We understand and embrace the differences that allow us to grow as a company. Our strong belief in open and honest communication encourages those around us to express their thoughts and ideas freely.

Service to our Customers
Sam Walton said it best: "Our customers are the reason we're in business, so we should treat them that way." Offering our customers the products they want at everyday low prices, and providing friendly and helpful service are just two of the ways that we provide service to our customers. We also serve our customers by challenging ourselves to find new ways to exceed their expectations.

Striving for Excellence
As a company, we promote and encourage continuous learning for all associates, at all levels. This commitment to continuous improvement, combined with what Sam Walton called a "healthy dissatisfaction with the status-quo", helps the company to grow by bringing simple and smart ideas to life.
