Walmart Canada strengthens its ties to the communities where we operate by supporting a diversity of organizations and charities. We contribute particularly to programs that help families advance in the areas of healthcare, education and safety. The vast majority of our work is local in nature with even our national programs aligned with local causes.
We’re proud to support four national charity partners: Children’s Miracle Network, Breakfast Clubs of Canada, Canadian Red Cross and Evergreen.
Children’s Miracle Network
Since 1994, Walmart Canada has contributed more than $55 million to Children's Miracle Network (CMN), a non-profit organization dedicated to helping kids by raising funds for 170 children's hospitals across North America. Each year these non-profit hospitals provide the finest care, research and community outreach to help millions of children with diseases and injuries of every kind. In Canada, Children's Miracle Network raises funds for 14 children’s hospitals, and helps more than 2 million Canadian children annually.
Children's Miracle Network hospitals impact the lives of more children than any other children's organization in the world. Children's hospitals provide state-of-the-art care, life-saving research and preventative education for children 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. There is a Children's Miracle Network hospital dedicated to serving children in every community across Canada. These hospitals are committed to providing the best care for children when they need it.
Canadian Red Cross
Walmart Canada is the premier corporate sponsor of the Canadian Red Cross, helping victims of natural disaster across Canada and around the world.
In 2004, Walmart Canada established the Disaster Preparedness Response Fund, a program that assists the Canadian Red Cross in building its capacity to train and deploy specialists in both disaster management and humanitarian relief. In addition to disaster services, the Canadian Red Cross runs a number of community programs including first aid training, babysitting courses, water safety, homecare services and more.
Breakfast Clubs of Canada
Walmart Canada launched its support of the Breakfast Clubs of Canada (BCC) in 2003 with a mission to ensure that all children attend school well-nourished and ready to learn. We have since become the largest corporate partner of BCC.
Breakfast Clubs of Canada is a national not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing services and funding to school breakfast programs. During the 2010-2011 school year, more than 16 million breakfasts were served to children attending schools in disadvantaged areas. More than 105,000 children benefited from a healthy breakfast in over 1,000 schools across Canada.
Evergreen
In 2009, Evergreen became one of Walmart Canada’s top four national programs. Dedicated to making cities more liveable, Evergreen is a not-for-profit organization that is a leading national funder and facilitator of local, sustainable greening projects in schoolyards, parks and communities across Canada.
